Yanida Acevedo – Izabal family farms

The Maldonado family, a resident of the village of Swich Quebrada, Morales, Izabal, was selected for a project to build and deliver family chicken coops to the community.

Until that time, one of the family’s greatest difficulties was to have stable economic resources. This difficulty resulted in the family’s inability to purchase nutritious food.

Through the family chicken coop, the lives of Yanida and her family changed for the better. This project allowed them to have a sustainable source of eggs and chicken meat for self-consumption and sale, transforming their nutrition and strengthening the family’s ability to generate more income.

By creating sustainable change, we can become agents of transformation, uplifting communities and building resilience. We extend our deepest gratitude to the SK2 Fund, which has made this project a reality for the Maldonado family and countless others like them. Your compassion and support have planted seeds of hope and empowerment in their hearts.

Yanida Acevedo – Granjas familiares Izabal

La familia Maldonado, residente de la aldea de Swich Quebrada, Morales, Izabal, fue seleccionada para un proyecto de construcción y entrega de gallineros familiares en la comunidad.

Hasta ese momento, una de las dificultades más grandes de la familia era el poder contar con recursos económicos estables. Esta dificultad, traía como consecuencia la incapacidad por parte de la familia de poder adquirir alimentos nutritivos.

A través del gallinero familiar, las vidas de Yanida y su familia tuvieron un cambio positivo. Este proyecto les permitió tener una fuente sostenible de huevos y carne de pollo para autoconsumo y la venta, transformando su nutrición y reforzando la capacidad de la familia para generar más ingresos económicos.

Creando un cambio sostenible, podemos convertirnos en agentes de transformación, elevando a las comunidades y fomentando la resiliencia. Extendemos nuestra más profunda gratitud al Fondo SK2, que ha hecho realidad este proyecto para la familia Maldonado e innumerables personas como ellos. Su compasión y apoyo han sembrado semillas de esperanza y empoderamiento en sus corazones.

barbara salvatierra – usumatlan water tank

Barbara Massiel Salvatierra is a mother of 4 children who has been the beneficiary of a home in Colonia Skipper Habitat in Usumatlan, Zacapa. Barbara’s life has been marked by resilience and determination to create positive change in her community. She saw and experienced firsthand the challenges that arise from the lack of basic necessities such as potable water. These circumstances motivated her to seek a better life for herself, her family and neighbors in the community.

Barbara’s journey took a significant turn when she became a beneficiary of a Habitat for Humanity home. The opportunity provided her with a safe and affordable place to live, ensuring stability and security for her family. The Habitat house not only improved her living conditions, but also instilled in Barbara a sense of empowerment and hope.

Recognizing the importance of access to clean, safe drinking water, Barbara actively participated in a new project initiated by Habitat for Humanity. She took on the responsibility of representing the interests of her community and acted as a liaison between Habitat and the residents.

The completion of the water reservoir project brought transformational changes to the Barbara community. Previously limited and unreliable access to water was replaced with a steady supply of potable water, improving sanitation, hygiene and the overall well-being of all residents.

Barbara’s story serves as an inspiration to others as it shows the transformative power of collaboration, advocacy and the pursuit of a better quality of life for all.

Barbara Salvatierra – Tanque de agua Usumatlán

Bárbara Massiel Salvatierra es una madre de 4 hijos que ha sido beneficiaria con una vivienda en la Colonia Skipper Hábitat en Usumatlán, Zacapa. La vida de Bárbara ha estado marcada por la resiliencia y la determinación de crear un cambio positivo en su comunidad. Ella vio y experimentó de primera mano los desafíos que surgen de la falta servicios de necesidad básica como el agua potable. Estas circunstancias la motivaron a buscar una vida mejor para ella, su familia y los vecinos de la comunidad.

El viaje de Barbara dio un giro significativo cuando se convirtió en beneficiaria de una vivienda de Hábitat para la Humanidad. La oportunidad le proporcionó un lugar seguro y asequible donde vivir, garantizando estabilidad y seguridad a su familia. La casa de Hábitat no sólo mejoró sus condiciones de vida, sino que también infundió en Barbara un sentimiento de empoderamiento y esperanza.

Reconociendo la importancia del acceso al agua limpia y potable, Barbara participó activamente en un nuevo proyecto iniciado por Hábitat para la Humanidad. Asumió la responsabilidad de representar los intereses de su comunidad y actuó como enlace entre Hábitat y los residentes.

La finalización del proyecto del depósito de agua produjo cambios transformadores en la comunidad de Barbara. El acceso al agua, antes limitado y poco fiable, fue sustituido por un suministro constante de agua potable, lo que mejoró el saneamiento, la higiene y el bienestar general de todos los residentes.

La historia de Barbara sirve de inspiración para otros, ya que muestra el poder transformador de la colaboración, la defensa y la búsqueda de una mejor calidad de vida para todos.

Gira de Diezmo 2023

A través del programa de diezmo de Hábitat para la Humanidad, afiliados estadounidenses y oficinas nacionales a nivel mundial, están llamados a contribuir el 10% de sus ingresos no restringidos, hacia otros programas de Hábitat en el mundo, y así aportar a la misión global de que todas las personas habiten un lugar adecuado.

Cada año, el equipo de Desarrollo de Recursos Internacionales, toma un tiempo para visitar a algunas de las oficinas de Hábitat que donan su diezmo a nuestro programa nacional, con el fin de fortalecer nuestras relaciones y llevar a cabo reuniones y actividades que nos permitan compartir sobre nuestro trabajo en Guatemala, y, sobre todo, agradecer y presentar resultados tangibles de su contribución y alianza.

Durante la primera semana de junio, Hábitat Guatemala tuvo la oportunidad de retomar la Gira de Diezmo anual, en la cual Delorean Randich, Director Nacional, Vanessa Brombosz, Directora de Desarrollo de Recursos Internacional, y Celia Enríquez, Coordinadora de Diezmo y Aldea Global, visitaron 5 afiliados de diezmo de la costa este de EEUU; HFH of the Charlotte Region, Asheville Area HFH y Avery County HFH en Carolina del Norte, HFH Choptank en Maryland y Sussex County HFH en Delaware.

Esta oportunidad nos ha dado la oportunidad de afianzar lazos con nuestros socios internacionales y conversar sobre cómo su diezmo contribuye al desarrollo de nuestras familias y cómo mantener este principio de generosidad y colaboración que trasciende fronteras e idiomas.

Agradecemos a cada afiliado que nos recibió en sus oficinas y esperamos continuar unificando esfuerzos para seguir construyendo viviendas, comunidades y esperanza e impactar a más familias guatemaltecas.

Tithe Tour 2023

Through Habitat for Humanity’s tithe program, U.S. affiliates and national organizations worldwide, are asked to contribute 10% of their unrestricted revenue to other Habitat programs around the world, in order to support Habitat’s global mission of everyone living in an adequate and dignified place they can call home.

Every year, the International Resource Development team takes time to visit some of the Habitat offices that donate their tithe to our national programming, in order to strengthen our relationships. We hold meetings and activities that allow us to share with others about our work in Guatemala, and, most importantly, to thank and present the tangible results of their contribution and partnership.

During the first week of June, Habitat Guatemala had the opportunity to resume the annual Tithe Tour, in which Delorean Randich, National Director, Vanessa Brombosz, Director of International Resource Development, and Celia Enriquez, Tithe and Global Village Coordinator, visited 5 tithe affiliates on the US East Coast; HFH of the Charlotte Region, Asheville Area HFH and Avery County HFH in North Carolina, HFH Choptank in Maryland and Sussex County HFH in Delaware.

This opportunity has given us the chance to strengthen bonds with our international partners and discuss how tithe contributes to the growth of our families and allows us to maintain this principle of generosity and collaboration that transcends borders and languages.

We thank each affiliate who welcomed us to their offices and look forward to continuing our efforts to build homes, communities and hope, and impact more Guatemalan families, together.
