The Challenge:

Over 2.2 million households in Guatemala suffer from inadequate housing. The economic impact of COVID-19 has deepened poverty, leaving over half the population struggling on less than $6 per day. Most homes have serious deficiencies—unstable structures, dirt floors, inadequate sanitation, and no safe water.

Our Impact:

Habitat for Humanity Guatemala (HFHG) has provided more than 170,000 housing solutions over 45 years, positively impacting over 1 million people. HFHG’s efforts have contributed to reducing Guatemala’s national housing deficit by 7.6%. Our proven homeownership model provides access to affordable financing so that families can build sustainable, culturally accepted, and resilient housing solutions.

The Project: Building Communities & Hope

We aim to transform lives by providing 25 vulnerable families in Chimaltenango with:

• Safe, affordable land
• In-kind financial support for constructing dignified homes
• Technical guidance and training
• Access to clean water through purification systems
• Promotion of local and global volunteer involvement

The project will:

• Benefit 125 individuals directly, especially children
• Improve their physical and mental health, among other benefits
• Support their economic and social inclusion through homeownership

This is collaborative project between HFH Florida affiliates and HFH Guatemala. The cost of land and infrastructure will be covered by FL affiliates and the HFH Guatemala will work with homeowners to build safe and resilient houses.

Working with Global Village, volunteers from Florida and beyond will join the work in Guatemala to build this new community together!

Project Budget:

The total cost for land acquisition for 25 lots in Chimaltenango is $655,000. This cost includes surveying, title search, legal and registration fees, property transfer tax, and utility connections. Your support helps make these essential elements of homeownership a reality for families in need.
